DISCUSSION
Small Group discussions
Active learning can be implemented by
organizing the class into small groups of students who can work together,
foster their own learning strategy and create an atmosphere in which information
sharing can takes place. Instructional techniques involving group controlled
learning
experiences provide room for the learner’s
self-development and active participation in the teaching learning process. A
discussion is a teaching technique that involves exchange of ideas with active learning
and participation by all concerned. Discussion is an active process of
teacher-pupil involvement in the classroom environment. This allows a student
present its own perspective about something freely. Four basic concepts are to
be considered for initiating small group discussion.
Process – the
interactions that takes place within the group
Roles – each group
member’s specific responsibilities within the group
Leadership – the
capacity to guide and direct others in a group setting
Cohesion- group members
support for one another
